Rhodium is a silvery-white noble metal with a melting point of 1964 degrees Celsius. Rhodium was named after some of its compounds which were rose-red in color. It is a corrosion resistant metal and one of the rarest non-radioactive metals. It has oxidation states ranging from 0 to +7 though +3 is the most commonly observed. It was discovered in 1803 by William Wollaston in collaboration with Smithson Tennant.Â
Rhodium is widely used in electronics for coating optical fibers, thermocouples, and electrical contacts. It is also used as a catalyst. It can be used as an investment due to its high cost and high price.
