Calcium is located on the fourth period and the second group in the periodic table of elements. Its appearance is silvery gray with a melting point of 842 degrees Celsius. Calcium is a reactive member of the alkaline earth metals. It can form up to 2 bonds and has many compounds. It was first isolated in 1808 by Humphry Davy via electrolysis. It oxidizes rapidly in the air, forming Calcium oxide, which reacts violently with water just like the metal itself. When its compounds are burnt, they burn with an orange flame.
Calcium has a lot of uses. In the human body, our bones are mostly made up of Calcium Phosphate. (Ca3(PO4)2) In addition it is used in the production of cement & concrete. Calcium has even helped us discover new elements. The extremely rare isotope Calcium 48 was used to discover Flerovium, Moscovium, Livermorium, Tennissine, and Oganesson.
