Bismuth is a silvery-white post transition metal with a pinkish tinge form its oxide layer. It has a melting point of 272 degrees Celsius. When it reacts with Oxygen, it forms an array of colors on its surface. It forms rectangular crystals. It has oxidation states of +3 and +5. Bismuth may have been known since the fifteenth century AD, but was only officially recognized in 1753. It was used to be believed that Bismuth was a stable element, however, it has been proven that Bismuth is radioactive. It has a half-life of 20,000,000,000,000,000,000 years.
Bismuth is used a lot in our everyday lives. It can be found in pepto-bismol, consmetics, and some other products.
