Polonium is located on the sixth period and the sixteenth group in the periodic table of elements. It is a silvery gray solid with a melting point of 254 degrees Celsius. Polonium can be considered a member of the metalloids. It can form up to 2 bonds. Polonium is a very radioactive member of its group. Polonium was identified in 1898 by Marie Curie. It is one of the most toxic elements there is. Marie Curie died of aplastic anemia, probably from the radiation from Radium and Polonium.
Polonium doesn't have many uses. It is used in some industrial processes to eliminate static electricity, and as a source of power on satellites and other machines in space. It was also used for the assassination of ex-Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko in 2006. The radioactivity of Polonium was what took him down.
Polonium 210 undergoes alpha decay and forms Lead 206.
