Copper is a reddish-brown transition metal with a melting point of 1085 degrees Celsius. It is relatively corrosion resistant which means it is a native metal. Many of its compounds are green or blue. It has oxidation states of +1 and +2.Â
Copper is used to make pennies. It is also alloyed with other metals such as Zinc to make brass, or Tin to make bronze. These alloys were used for decorative purposes, doorknobs, clocks, instruments, and weapons.
