Fluorine is located in the second period and the seventeenth group in the periodic table of elements. It is a pale yellow gas with a boiling point of -188 degrees Celsius. It can only form 1 bond. It is also the most electronegative element on the periodic table. Fluorine was identified in 1886 by Henri Moissan. Fluorine is extremely toxic, and a small concentration can be fatal in minutes.
Flourides are used in toothpaste to provide a layer on our teeth against microorganisms. It was also used a a flux. Fluorine has also created some of the most inert compounds out there, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene ((C2F4)n), or teflon.
