Neon is located in the second period and eighteenth group in the periodic table of elements. It is completely inert, not even reacting with Fluorine. It is a colorless gas which glows bright red when exited. It has a boiling point of -246 degrees Celsius. It was discovered in 1898 by William Ramsey and Morris Travers.
Neon is famously used in Neon lighting, however, colors other than Neon's characteristic red are usually other gases.
