Lutetium is the last member of the Lanthanide series, being located in the first row below the periodic table of elements. It is a silver metal with a melting point of 1652 degrees Celsius. It was identified in 1907 by Georges Urbain. It is a rare member of the lanthanides.
Lutetium's uses are limited, but it can be used as a catalyst to break up large hydrocarbons in oil refineries.
