Magnesium is located on the third period and the second group in the periodic table of elements. Its appearance is silvery white with a melting point of 650 degrees Celsius. Magnesium is a member of the alkaline earth metals. It can form up to 2 bonds. It reacts with water to form Magnesium oxide (MgO2), and Hydrogen. It was first identified in 1755 by Joseph Black. It was isolated in 1808 by Humphry Davy via electrolysis. It burns a bright white in air, and it is a very light metal sometimes used in alloys with other metals for that purpose. It is the first relatively safe metal in the periodic table.
Magnesium is an important metal. It is an important part of chlorophyll and helps plants. It plays many roles in our body. Along with that, it is used in metal alloys to lighten them. Sadly, Magnesium also has some negative uses. It was used in WWII in Magnesium bombs to create terrible firestorms.
