Dysprosium is the tenth member of the Lanthanide series, being located in the first row below the periodic table of elements. It is a silvery-white metal with a melting point of 1407 degrees Celsius. It was identified in 1886 by Paul-Emile Lecoq de Boisbaudran. It absorbs neutrons well. It is also rare.
Dysprosium can be used in control rods in nuclear reactors because it can absorb neutrons. It can also be added to neodymium magnets so it retains its magnetism even at high temperatures.
