Hassium is an extremely unstable metal with a half life of 12 minutes (hassium 277). Its discovery was accepted in 1984 and the GSI named it after the state in Germany it was in; Hesse. 

Hassium doesn't have any use outside of scientific research due to its high radioactivity and extremely short half life.
