Osmium is a silvery-blue noble metal with a melting point of 3033 degrees Celsius. It is the densest non radioactive metal on the periodic table with a density of 22.59 g/cm3. It has chemical properties similar to those of Ruthenium. Its oxide is very toxic and can make you go blind. It has oxidation states ranging from +1 to +8 and -2. It was discovered in 1803 by the chemist Smithson Tennant. Osmium is a rare metal.
Osmium is sometimes used in surgical equipment or other tools that need to be corrosion resistant. Its uses are limited due to its extreme rarity.
