Berkelium is the ninth member of the actinides located on the second row below the periodic table. It is a silvery-white, radioactive metal with a melting point of 1050 degrees Celsius. It was discovered in 1949 by Glenn T. Seaborg and his team. It is a reactive metal with properties similar to Terbium. Berkelium 247 has a half-life of 1380 years. Berkelium is a man-made element. It was named after the place it was discovered; Berkeley.
Berkelium doesn't have many uses outside of research.
