Bromine is located in the fourth period and seventeenth group in the periodic table of elements. It is a volatile, toxic, red liquid with a melting point of -7 degrees Celsius. It is a reactive element which can form up to 7 bonds. It was identified in 1826 by Antoine-Jerome Balard.
bromine used to be used to fumigate soil in the form of bromomethane(CH3Br), or dibromomethane(CH₂Br₂). Silver bromide was used in photography.
